The HIM Manifesto

We Are HIM

We are not a problem to be solved.

Collapsible. Easily summed; some patriarchal remnant, deadbeat or dead weight; defined by headlines touting the worst among us.

We are more than what we provide or produce.

We refuse to be reduced to our lowest common denominator; the “they ain’t shit” doesn’t fit.

We Are Initiators

We are Life expressing.

We are Energy in complement.

This masculine, one necessary part in service of the greater whole.

Wholly indivisible. In balance.

We Are Men of Substance

Husbands, Brothers. Uncles. Fathers. Teachers. Leaders. Sons and Students.

We are elders.

We are engineers and mathematicians, authors and entrepreneurs.

We are the men that keep the lights on, quite literally,

those men unseen, who build our cities, pave roads, protect streets, or simply clean them.

We are deep, rooted, and responsible. We acknowledge and learn from our missteps, attending and correcting any harms where we can.

We Care and Are Full of Love

We require care, and we need love.

Protection and room for redemption too.

We are not born, but rather are built.

Moulded by those others who made time,

and mentored us to maturity.

We acknowledge that manhood is often not easy, nor can it be achieved in isolation or in ego. We are relational beings. Humility and wisdom are our friends.

At Our Strongest,

We stand on business and on Principle. Heavy.

A weight to be measured not in the hardness of our gait,

but in the quality of our character.

We are men committed to honouring the best of us, in us.

An inner Truth, that when lived out in practice,

has the power to heal and restore so much of what ails us, our neighbours, and the world.

Together, we are Honouring our Inner Man.

Together, We Are HIM

We Are Commited to Truth and Reconvilliation

Black Men's Therapy Foundation acknowledges that we are living and working in the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, in Toronto (T’karonto – Mohawk term), covered by Treaty 13, which has been stewarded since time immemorial to this very day by the Haudenosaunee, the Wendat, Petun, Seneca and most recently by the Missauagas of the Credit River First Nation and is home to many Indigenous Peoples.
